Hazardous Materials Industry Technician
This course will provide the student the minimum skills and knowledge to respond to a private industry hazardous materials event. This course meets the Title 8 5192 (q) (6) (C) requirement with a focus on:
- Know how to implement the employer’s emergency response plan. Know the classification, identification, and verification of known and unknown materials by field survey instruments and equipments. Be able to function within an assigned role in the ICS and understand hazard and risk assessment techniques. Know how to select and use proper specialized chemical PPE provided to the hazardous materials technician.
- Be able to perform advance control, containment, and/or confinement operations and rescue injured or contaminated persons within the capabilities of the resources and PPE available with the unit. Understand and implement equipment, victim and rescue personnel decontamination procedures. Understand termination procedures and basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior.
